April 2021 Poem Sümeyye Sakarya

Punctuation Marks

I started life like a tiny dot,
In crossroads with abundant commas;
Unrequited speech lines,
Ellipses taking the place of words.

Now, towards my eyes gazing at you,
With complex semicolons,
You left the question marks,
Roaming in my mind, just like that.

As if piling colons on top of each other,
I waited for your explanations in sentences.
Yet, what was left for me between two quotation marks,
Was a whole “longing.”
Life is hidden within these parentheses,
Who knows how many exclamations it holds.
In this life, the most important thing
Was to find the starting point.
